Meet the Makers Quilt Along and Block # 3
Another week, another block. It's week 3 of the Meet the Maker Quilt Along hosted by Riley Blake Designs and I am continuing with using our PANDA LOVE fabric collection. I love fussy cutting those sweet little pandas. They fit perfectly in the block designs don't you think?
If you're familiar with making flying geese blocks then you'll be able to tackle block 3 no problem. You can see below how I pieced the rectangle and squares together to make a flying geese unit. You need 4 of these for this block.
You need to make another 4 sets of flying geese units but in the smaller size for the center block. They are a little more challenging to make because of their small size, so try to keep them accurate (you'll see mine are NOT perfect, but I got them done and that's what counts right? LOL).
This is what I've done so far.
Next, I'll piece together the center block. I'll sew the rows together: 1, 2, 3 and then I'll sew the top row to the middle and finally the bottom row to the middle.
The top and bottom rows now have to be pieced together:
Sew the center row together and then the top row to the middle and then the bottom row to the middle. Trim to square up the block so that it measures 10 1/2"
Here is my finished block (using our PANDA LOVE fabric):
And here is Cindy Cloward's finished block using RBD Confetti Cottons. Isn't it pretty? I love the solids! There is more info including cutting specs, etc on the blog post at Riley Blake Designs Blog.
In this week's video tutorial, as well as showing you how to sew up Block # 3, Cindy Cloward also shares tips on pressing and how to "nest" the seams - very important so that your quilt shows nicely without lumps and bumps. See the VIDEO TUTORIAL FOR BLOCK #3 HERE.
If you're looking for PANDA LOVE or any of our other fabric collections and can't find them at your LQS, I've got you covered HERE in our SHOP.
